Meet our Team: January 2017

It takes guts to embark on a new career adventure but the bitcoin space is likely one of the more fast-paced, exciting and rewarding industries out there. And luckily for us, it tends to attract the best and brightest. Our most recent hires are no exception. Meet four marvelous new additions to our team who have all made quite the impression on us since they came aboard in the latter half of 2016.

Ray Xia, Developer

Ray joins our development team with a foundation of experience from his time at RBS, and then Goldman Sachs. Prior to the start of his career, he attended the University of Nottingham to pursue his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Management, and at the same time co-founded the university’s Student Association of the Computer Science School. Ray initially performed a rotation of different roles at RBS, until he found his preference for coding and switched to full-time Java development. His skills, persistence, and enthusiasm are a true asset to our team, and as someone who single-handedly organized his own wedding, we’ll add patience and attentiveness to detail to that list as well.

Pooja Chokshi, Strategy & Partnerships

Pooja’s background in finance, entrepreneurship and development were key in drawing her to fintech and bitcoin. The MBA graduate considers both to be instrumental in driving financial inclusion globally.  Her career thus far has led her to work in 6 cities across 3 continents, at firms such as Goldman Sachs and Sangam Ventures, a venture capital fund investing in startups in India.  When she’s not leading strategy and partnership efforts for the company, Pooja loves trying out the latest vegetarian restaurants in NYC, mentoring young professionals early in their career, and plotting her next trip (a previous trip to the Himalayas proves she’s not afraid of a little adventure)!

Tanya Denisova, User Operations (Russian)

Tanya is the newest addition to our UserOps team, and her primary focus is providing Russian-language support. Last May, she completed her double major degree in Economics and Russian and Eastern European studies. Tanya was entirely new to bitcoin before she joined us, but she’s been picking up new concepts ever-so-quickly. Her contributions have been crucial in helping us improve our connection with Russian users, which includes the epic challenge of translating our entire support center. When she isn’t busy helping users, it’s quite possible you’ll find her contemplating the significance of Tolkien and Middle-earth lore, or debating the finer details of Elvish politics.

Mikayla Markrich, Product Manager

Mikayla initially pursued a career in fashion while she attended Parsons the New School for Design in New York. After deciding that the fashion industry was not for her, and graduating with a degree in Business and Design Strategy, Mikayla found a role at a startup that allowed her to pursue her interests in both fashion and technology. Startup life turned out to be just what Mikayla was looking for, as she was able to explore a number of different roles within the company, eventually finding her way into Product Management. After 8 years in New York, Mikayla decided it was time for a new adventure and picked up and moved to London, where she’s joined our London based team. Originally from a small town in Hawaii, Mikayla is no stranger to big moves. Her first time living abroad, Mikayla is excited to learn more about her new home, and plans on spending her weekends traveling.
