It was just a few days ago that we excitedly announced the release of the Blockchain Wallet coming back to the App Store for iOS. It’s been a long time coming that many of you have been asking us, and Apple, about for several months. With the new update and release, we wanted to touch base with the community and highlight the Blockchain merchant directory. We feel this is a powerful tool in your bitcoin arsenal.
Bitcoin merchants keep us going
Brick and mortar merchants that accept bitcoins help keep the wheels turning in the bitcoin ecosystem. Without merchants accepting bitcoins, we wouldn’t be able to spend them! So obviously, having a merchant directly at your fingertips, knowing where you can spend your bitcoins, is a crucial piece of the puzzle that we thought would be one of the most important features of the new updated Blockchain Wallet.
Using the Blockchain Wallet merchant directory
Being able to access hundreds of merchants in your pocket when you’re on the go couldn’t be easier. Just open up the Blockchain Wallet, and tap on the fourth tab on the right. The app will know where you are located and zoom in to your area automatically when you first open the merchant directory. You can then pinch and zoom in further to get a more detailed view of brick and mortar bitcoin merchants near you. You can pinch and zoom out, and see merchants all over the world.
Here are some views of the merchant directory in action, from different points all over the world. You can help us expand this directory by submitting brick and mortar businesses to us for inclusion.
The markers when reading the directory are as follows: Red (Cafés/Coffee), Purple (Drinks/Brewery), Orange (Food/Restaurants), Blue (Businesses/Shops), and Green (Bitcoin ATMs).
